Come Face Us In The Battle Field, Military Challenges Asari Dokubo

The Nigerian military through the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to threats made by ex-militant leader Asari Dokubo, daring him to “come to the battlefield” and witness the full might of the Nigerian military.

Recall that Asari Dokubo, in a viral social media video, had threatened to shoot down a military helicopter that was reportedly hovering around his community during the recent local government elections in Rivers State.

Addressing the issue during a press briefing on Thursday, Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, dismissed Dokubo’s threats as “laughable” and challenged him to face the military directly if he truly believed he could contend with them.

“His statement about shooting down military helicopters is not only laughable but unrealistic,” Buba said. “We are in a democracy, and as professionals, we cannot act rashly on mere comments without due consideration, or else we would be seen as undemocratic.”

While acknowledging the gravity of Dokubo’s remarks, Buba emphasized that the military would not overstep its bounds. “The military is only one part of Nigeria’s security apparatus. There are other security agencies responsible for handling issues like this, and I trust they will act accordingly.”

However, the Major General made it clear that the military’s stance remains firm should Dokubo escalate his threats. “If Asari Dokubo wants to test the capabilities of the military, he is welcome to come to the battlefield. Our mandate is to engage him in combat and neutralize any threat he poses. Let him come and see whether we will react or not.”

Buba reiterated the military’s readiness to protect the nation, assuring Nigerians that Dokubo’s threats would be dealt with appropriately by the relevant security agencies.

All eyes are now on the security forces to see how they handle the situation moving forward.
