The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has lifted the suspension of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), along with other prominent party members.

This decision came after a lengthy meeting involving the state executive committee, APC members from the state Assembly, and local government leaders.

The meeting was called to address the internal crisis triggered by the suspension of key stakeholders in the Southern Ijaw, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Yenagoa local government areas. Among the notable figures previously suspended were Senator Lokpobiri and Chief David Lyon, the party’s 2019 governorship candidate.

At a press conference on Tuesday October 15 at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa, the party issued a communique signed by state chairman Chief Dennis Otiotio-Odoni and Acting State Secretary Owutuamo Tamaranpreye. The statement confirmed that the suspensions were reversed after a request from the minority caucus of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and following extensive discussions within the party.

“The suspensions were rescinded after consultations with key stakeholders and recommendations from the APC caucus in the state Assembly,” the communique stated. The party deferred ratifying the suspensions to allow for further discussions.

In the same meeting, the extended executive committee and APC Assembly Caucus condemned the actions of the Bayelsa Commissioner for Power, Mr. Kharin Kumoku, who allegedly led a group attempting to attack the APC state secretariat. The party urged Governor Douye Diri to caution the commissioner and called on the Commissioner of Police, Francis A. Idu, and the state Director of DSS to investigate the incident.

The Bayelsa APC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic values and peaceful dialogue in resolving internal conflicts. The party emphasized the importance of unity and decorum among its members for future success in the state.
