Immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Timipre Sylva has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for Bayelsa State.

The former Bayelsa governor was declared the winner of the APC governorship primaries held in the oil-rich state on Friday and Saturday.

While declaring the results at the state’s APC Secretary in Yenagoa, the Chairman of the electoral committee for the governorship election in Bayelsa Maj. General Ahmed Jubrin said the former minister scored 52,061 votes. His closest rival Joshua MacIver had 2,078.

Chief David Lyon, the governor-elect in 2019, came third.

Lyon polled 1,582 votes behind Great Joshua MacIver, who got 2,078 votes.

Prof. Ongoebi Etebu won 1277 votes, Mrs Ikisima Ogbomade 584 and Festus Daumiebi 557.

Recall that Sylva resigned from his position to join the Bayelsa State governorship race.

On Friday, APC in Bayelsa State commenced primary across 105 wards to choose the party’s flagbearer in the November 11 election.

Sylva will be seeking to wrest the control of the oil rich southern state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

He will be squaring off against the incumbent, Duoye Diri.

Diri clinched PDP ticket on Wednesday in a lone primary election contest on Thursday.
