Search Underway For Missing Crew As Navy Aircraft Crashes

A U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler, an electronic attack aircraft, crashed east of Mount Rainier, Washington, on Tuesday evening during a routine training mission.

The status of the two crew members aboard the aircraft is currently unknown, as of 7 p.m. on October 15.

Search and rescue efforts are underway, with a Navy MH-60S helicopter dispatched from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, located north of Seattle, to assist in locating the missing personnel.

The EA-18G Growler, which belongs to Electronic Attack Squadron 130 (VAQ-130), is part of the F/A-18 family of aircraft. VAQ-130, stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, holds the distinction of being the Navy’s oldest electronic warfare squadron.

The Navy has not yet provided additional information on the cause of the crash but is expected to release further updates as the situation unfolds.
