The Labour Party has issued a stern warning to its members, urging them to follow the party’s constitution and obey directives. This statement came after an incident in Aba, where a Labour Party meeting was disrupted by masked men, suspected to be police officers, on Saturday.

During the meeting, over 20 masked individuals entered the venue, ordering silence from the attendees. Five of the masked men went up to the high table and confronted Prince G.O. Ndubueze, the secretary of the Labour Party’s local government election committee, informing him that he was under arrest.

However, the party members at the meeting resisted, demanding that the masked men produce an arrest warrant for Ndubueze. In response to the attempted arrest, over 500 Labour Party members marched alongside Ndubueze to the Aba Area Police Command, seeking explanations from the authorities.

After the incident, Ndubueze spoke to the newsmen, accusing Governor Alex Otti of trying to intimidate him and other party members. He alleged that the governor was attempting to impose candidates for the upcoming local government elections set for November 2.

Ndubueze stated, “I didn’t receive any arrest warrant. I’m not even sure if those men were real policemen, but as a law-abiding citizen, I went with them to the police. However, I will not be intimidated by Governor Alex Otti. We will not allow him to impose candidates in this election.”

He continued, “This is a governor who came to power through a legitimate election, but now he wants to impose candidates. The Labour Party in Abia state will not accept any form of imposition.”
