A gas explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State destroyed six vehicles, according to the state police.

The explosion took place on Friday, November 15 when a truck carrying gas cylinders caught fire at the Tamal filling station along the Kagadama-Magamar Jibia road.

Police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident and stated that officers from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and supported by military personnel, quickly responded after hearing the loud explosion.

Upon arriving at the scene, the team found the truck, loaded with gas cylinders, engulfed in flames. The joint team took immediate action to prevent further damage and protect lives, successfully putting out the fire. While six vehicles were severely damaged by the fire, there were no casualties.

“The joint team swiftly deployed preventive measures to protect lives and minimise property damage, successfully quenching the fire. Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost,” said Sadiq-Aliyu.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a full investigation into the cause of the explosion. Updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available, Sadiq-Aliyu added.
