Ondo: 3 Candidates Withdraw, Endorse Rival
Ahead of the Ondo State governorship election, candidates from various political parties have thrown their support behind incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, vowing to mobilize their supporters for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.
The candidates who stepped down include flag bearers of the Accord (A), the National Rescue Movement (NRM), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Ondo governorship election holding on Saturday.
Their endorsement of Aiyedatiwa came during a solidarity visit to the governor, in Akure, the state capital.
The coalition of candidates, expressing their commitment to progress in the state, stated, “It is clear that the governor is actively working for the people. This Saturday, we will turn our commitment into votes. We will vote for continuity in Ondo State.”
In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed heartfelt gratitude for the endorsement, describing it as a goodwill gesture and a significant step toward unity in Ondo’s development. “I didn’t call for this, but I am grateful that my colleagues in the race have voluntarily identified with my mandate and are ready to mobilize their supporters to vote for the APC,” he said, lauding the candidates’ decision as an act of statesmanship.
He further urged supporters across the state to show up in large numbers on election day. “There’s no time left. I appeal to you all to encourage your members to come out in full force on Saturday and cast their votes for the APC,” Aiyedatiwa added, emphasizing the need for continued development and stability in Ondo State.
The rallying of support from multiple parties has fueled optimism among APC supporters, with many viewing it as a strong signal of confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
