President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery.

The refinery began loading petroleum products on November 26, 2024. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, confirmed that the refinery is now set to operate at 60% of its capacity.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu acknowledged the significant contributions of former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the rehabilitation of the country’s refineries. He also expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for its financial support in the project.

Tinubu further commended the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his dedication and commitment to overcoming the challenges faced during the revitalization process.

The President has directed NNPC Limited to expedite the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries. These efforts are expected to significantly improve Nigeria’s domestic production capacity, alongside contributions from privately owned refineries, positioning the country as a major energy hub.

The statement emphasized that the gas sector will also receive considerable attention from the administration. President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to repairing the nation’s refineries and eliminating the perception of Nigeria as a major crude oil producer that cannot refine its own resources for domestic use.

In closing, the President highlighted the values of patience, integrity, and accountability in the rebuilding of national infrastructure. He urged all individuals and institutions entrusted with responsibilities to stay focused and uphold trust in their service to the country. President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to achieving energy sufficiency, strengthening energy security, and enhancing Nigeria’s export capacity, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda focused on shared economic prosperity.
