Robbers Attack El-Kanemi Warriors On Way Home After League Game Defeat
The players and officials of El-Kanemi Warriors, a team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), faced a harrowing experience on Saturday morning when armed robbers ambushed them on the Jos-Bauchi road.
The team was returning to Maiduguri after a match in Lagos, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Ikorodu City during a matchday 14 fixture on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that several players and team officials sustained injuries during the attack. The robbers also stole valuables, including cash and mobile phones.
The injured team members were rushed to a nearby hospital in Bauchi, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
El-Kanemi Warriors were originally scheduled to host Bayelsa United in Maiduguri on Sunday. However, due to the unfortunate incident, the NPFL is expected to postpone the match.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of teams traveling for league matches, prompting calls for improved security measures for football teams on Nigerian roads.
