Cooking Gas Prices in Nigeria

The price of refilling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has been fluctuating across Nigeria this week, with costs varying based on several factors.

Consumers are experiencing price shifts due to seasonal demand, challenges with transportation, and global market conditions of cooking gas as they also apply in Nigeria.

This week, the average price for refilling cooking gas ranges from approximately ₦1,300 to ₦1,500 per kilogram. However, these prices can differ significantly depending on the region, local access to supply, and distribution logistics.

Key Factors Influencing Prices:

Seasonal Demand: With the festive season approaching, there has been an increase in the demand for cooking gas, driving prices higher.

Transportation Costs: The rising cost of transportation is largely due to poor road conditions and increasing fuel prices, especially affecting distribution in the northern regions of Nigeria.

Global LPG Prices: International fluctuations in LPG prices are also impacting the local market. Nigeria, which depends on imports for a large portion of its LPG supply, is vulnerable to these global price changes.

Currency Exchange Rates: The depreciation of the naira against foreign currencies has made importing and cooking gas more expensive, which in turn has affected retail price in Nigeria.

Here are the current prices of cooking gas per kilogram:

– 1kg Cooking gas – ₦1,300

– 3kg Cooking gas – ₦3,900

– 5kg Cooking gas – ₦6,500

– 6kg Cooking gas – ₦7,800

– 10kg Cooking gas – ₦13,000

– 12.5kg Cooking gas – ₦16,250
