Okada Riders Rebuff NLC President, Ajaero
By Benjamin Abioye
The National President of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), Comrade Chief Julius Oghenevwegba Bobi, has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to respect ongoing judicial processes.
This follows the recent appointment of a caretaker committee for MOUN by the NLC, a move described as disregarding court directives.
In a letter addressed to the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and copied to the NLC General Secretary, Comrade Barr. Emmanuel Ugboaja, the MOUN president expressed disappointment over the decision. Bobi described the action as provocative and a potential violation of the law, warning that it could lead to contempt of court and disrupt public order.
“We are compelled to address your recent appointment of a caretaker committee for our union, MOUN. This action is a clear disregard for the court’s orders and the ongoing subjudice matter,” Bobi stated.
The MOUN leader urged the NLC to exercise restraint and adhere to the rule of law, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and decorum. “Your actions are not only provocative but also border on lawlessness, potentially leading to contempt of court and a breakdown in law and order. We urge you to respect the court’s directives and refrain from further interfering with the subjudice matter,” the letter read.
Bobi called for a resolution that aligns with legal principles and fosters harmony within the union. Citing a common adage, he reminded the NLC of the importance of prudence in leadership: “A word is enough for the wise.”
The MOUN president expressed hope for a swift resolution that would uphold the judiciary’s authority and avoid further conflict.
