Youths Place Coffin At Sect In Protest Against APC Chairman

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, has been suspended over allegations of misconduct and making statements that could incite unrest.

A group of angry youths gathered at the APC State Secretariat in Akure, demanding Adetimehin’s resignation. They placed palm fronds and a white coffin with the inscription “Adetimehin Must Go” at the entrance of the party’s building. Reports suggest their anger was triggered by Adetimehin’s alleged call for military intervention in Nigeria.

Following the protest, the APC Executive Council members in Ofosu Ward, Idanre Local Government, held an emergency meeting and announced Adetimehin’s suspension. The decision was signed by 15 members, including the Ward Chairman, Olabisi Adepegba, Vice Chairman Olabisi Oyewole, and Secretary Olanrewaju Akinnuoye.

However, the APC State Director of Publicity, Steve Otaloro, rejected the suspension, calling it unconstitutional and invalid. “We wish to clarify that this action is not only constitutionally flawed but also undermines the principles of fairness and due process that our party upholds,” Otaloro stated.

He further argued that the decision by the Ofosu Ward Exco was against the party’s constitution and lacked proper justification. “The reasons cited for this suspension lack substance and detail, suggesting that the actions taken may stem from personal grievances rather than legitimate concerns about leadership,” Otaloro explained.

Otaloro reaffirmed that Adetimehin remains the legitimate chairman. “We want to reiterate that Engr. Ade Adetimehin remains the rightful Chairman of the APC in Ondo State. His leadership is crucial as we prepare for the upcoming local government elections, where we are committed to achieving victory for our party,” he said.

He called for peace within the party and warned that those involved in the suspension would face consequences. “We urge our loyal party members in Idanre LG to refrain from any retaliatory actions against the members of the Ofosu Exco involved in this illegitimate suspension. Rest assured, those responsible for this breach of protocol will face appropriate consequences at the right time,” he added.

As of now, Adetimehin has not issued any official statement addressing the allegations or the demand for his resignation.
