Helicopter crash hospital four Killed

An ambulance helicopter crashed into a hospital in Turkey on Sunday, December 22, 2024, killing four people, including two pilots, a doctor, and a hospital employee.

The crash occurred shortly after take-off in Mugla, a southwestern region of the country. Authorities believe that the thick fog, which reduced visibility, was the primary cause of the incident.

Mugla’s provincial governor, Idris Akbiyik, confirmed that the helicopter struck the fourth floor of the hospital building during take-off. “The helicopter fell to the ground after having struck the fourth storey of a hospital during take-off,” Akbiyik said. “There was intense fog.” Local news reports confirmed the aircraft was heading towards Antalya but lost control shortly after taking off from the hospital roof. The helicopter then drifted in the fog for several minutes before crashing into an empty field next to the hospital.

This crash comes just days after another tragic helicopter collision in Isparta province, which killed six soldiers during a military training exercise. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his condolences for the four lives lost in the latest incident. “The news that 4 of our brothers lost their lives as a result of the crash of an ambulance helicopter affiliated with our Ministry of Health in Muğla broke our hearts,” Erdoğan posted on social media. He further prayed for the deceased and offered his condolences to their families, colleagues, and the entire healthcare community.

Turkey’s former Health Minister also expressed concern, noting that the ambulance helicopter, which was operating under the Ministry of Health, crashed into a training and research hospital during take-off. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the crash.
