18-Year-Old Murder Suspect Dies In Police Custody
An 18-year-old suspect, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, who was accused of killing a retired Permanent Secretary in Niger State, has died in police custody.
The retired official, Adamu Jagaba, was reportedly attacked and stabbed at his block industry near the PDP Secretariat in Minna.
Police sources confirmed that Abdulhakeem passed away on Thursday but could not determine the exact cause of death. The Niger State Police Commissioner had recently presented Abdulhakeem to the public as the main suspect in the case. During a press briefing, Abdulhakeem admitted to being hired by some workers of the deceased to carry out the murder.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command explained the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death. He stated, “On December 19, 2024, around 5 pm, the suspect complained of severe stomach pain and coughing. He was taken to the general hospital in Minna for medical care but sadly died while receiving treatment.”
The body of the suspect has been deposited in the hospital mortuary. Authorities are waiting for the postmortem report to clarify the cause of death and proceed with further investigations.
