Usyk Casts Lot Amid Speculations Of Fury/Joshua Fight
British heavyweight boxers Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may still face off in a highly anticipated clash, despite recent setbacks in their respective careers.
This development comes after Fury’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia, where he lost by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 116-112 in favor of Usyk, leading to Fury’s claims of being “robbed” and his dramatic exit from the ring.
Promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren remain optimistic about the fight’s potential, calling it one of the most significant events in British boxing history. Hearn described it as a “global event,” while Warren emphasized its appeal, saying, “It’s what people will want to see. The Fury-Joshua fight is a big fight, and if it happens, it will be a mega fight. But it will only happen if Tyson wants to do it.”
The financial stakes are enormous, with projections estimating the bout could generate around ÂŁ250 million in revenue. Hearn suggested Wembley Stadium as the likely venue, envisioning it as a worldwide spectacle.
In a surprising remark, Usyk, who has fought both Fury and Joshua, indicated he would back Joshua in the event of a matchup between the two. “Maybe Anthony Joshua. Maybe on points,” Usyk said, reflecting on his experience against the two heavyweights. Usyk previously defeated Joshua to claim the unified heavyweight titles in 2021 and defended them in a rematch before his recent victory over Fury.
Following his loss, Fury has expressed dissatisfaction with the Saudi Arabian venue. He was captured on TNT Sports criticizing the location, stating, “You get nothing in these countries.” Meanwhile, Joshua, still recovering from his defeat to Daniel Dubois earlier this year, appears eager for redemption. Hearn commented on his determination, saying, “He is hurting… and he wants to come back stronger.”
Despite their recent struggles, the prospect of a Fury-Joshua fight continues to excite boxing fans worldwide. Fury reportedly told friends, “This is not over,” signaling his intent to keep fighting and secure his legacy in the sport.
