Petty Betty! Akeredolu’s Widow Slammed Over Chopping Remarks On Aiyedatiwa
By Gideon Ayeni
Betty Akeredolu, widow of the former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has come under fire from netizens following her criticism of the state government’s planned memorial lecture in her husband’s honor.
In a strongly-worded post on her X account, Betty distanced herself and her family from the event, accusing the state government, led by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of sidelining her family in the planning of the Akeredolu memorial lecture. She accused the governor of using the memorial as an opportunity to chop.
She alleged that the lecture, set to mark the first anniversary of her husband’s death, was a ploy to exploit his legacy for financial gains.
However, her public outburst has sparked divided reactions on social media, with many criticizing her approach. Several commenters accused her of disrespecting the governor, urging her to settle any grievances privately instead of airing them publicly.
Others called for reconciliation between Betty and the state government, advising both parties to prioritize unity in honoring the late governor.
Some, however, defended Governor Aiyedatiwa, urging him to ignore the accusations and proceed with the event. “The lecture isn’t about her; it’s about the people of Ondo and their respect for the late governor. Let the event go on,” a post read.

@eakinola23: Madam, Aketi may be your husband, He is also our son, the son of Owo and Yoruba land. You don’t solely own him. The Memorial lecture will happen. You are free not to attend. Merry Christmas.
Despite the backlash, Betty Akeredolu has stood firm in her stance, maintaining that her family was neither informed nor invited to the memorial lecture.
Meanwhile, the state government has clarified that the Akeredolu family was invited and emphasized that the lecture is a gesture of respect for the late governor’s service to the state.
