President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of a Federal University in Southern Kaduna to ensure access to quality education in all parts of the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima shared this development, noting that discussions are also underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Shettima made these statements during a condolence visit to the Kukah family over the passing of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom. The visit took place in Ikulu Kingdom, Kamuru, in the Zangon Kataf Council Area of Kaduna State.

In a statement from his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima explained that the efforts to establish the Federal University in Southern Kaduna had received approval from President Tinubu. “With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima said.

During his visit, Shettima also emphasized that the Tinubu administration is committed to the development of Southern Kaduna. He highlighted the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as proof of the government’s focus on addressing the region’s security needs. “Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” he assured.

Shettima praised the governance style of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for being inclusive and ensuring that all parts of the state feel involved. He further assured that the federal government would collaborate with the state to improve the region, especially its road infrastructure.

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, who spoke on behalf of his family, thanked the Vice President for his visit. He also brought attention to the poor state of roads in the area, noting how the journey to Ikulu Kingdom took around three and a half hours due to the bad road conditions. “I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” Kukah said, expressing hope that the issue would receive attention from the government.
