Winless Streak Continues As Chelsea Draw At Crystal Palace
By Benjamin Abioye
Chelsea extended their winless streak to four games after a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in a tense Premier League clash. Despite an early lead, Chelsea struggled to maintain control, allowing Palace to equalize late in the game.
Early Chelsea Lead
The match began with Chelsea taking an early advantage. Cole Palmer scored in the 14th minute after a brilliant solo run and assist from Jadon Sancho. Nicolas Jackson had a chance to double the lead soon after but missed a promising opportunity.
Palace Fight Back
Crystal Palace gradually gained momentum, creating several chances before halftime. Pedro Neto nearly set up a second goal for Palmer, but the latter couldn’t connect. Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta missed an opportunity, but the team showed determination to respond.
Second-Half Pressure
After the break, Palace dominated with high energy. Ebere Eze came close to scoring early in the second half but missed narrowly. Chelsea had occasional attacking moments but found themselves pinned back by Palace’s relentless attacks. Mateta eventually equalized in the 82nd minute with a close-range finish from an Eze cross.
Player Performances
Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, returned to the starting lineup but had a mixed performance, with errors in his distribution causing concerns. Young defender Josh Acheampong impressed in his Premier League debut, showing maturity and composure under pressure.
Palace’s defenders Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz stood out in the second half. Munoz’s attacking runs created several challenges for Chelsea’s defense, though he couldn’t secure an assist.
Chelsea’s Recurring Issues
Chelsea’s struggles to maintain control in the latter stages of games remain a concern. Their second-half collapse echoed similar issues from recent matches. Manager Enzo Maresca now faces the challenge of addressing these lapses, which appear to be more mental than physical.
This result leaves Chelsea with just a one-point lead in fourth place, intensifying pressure as the season progresses.
