The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a major increase in the prize money for the 2024 African Championship, also known as CHAN. This tournament, which features national teams made up of players who play in their home countries, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

For the 2024 edition, the winning team will receive a grand prize of $3.5 million, marking a 75% increase compared to the prize given to Senegal’s team at the last tournament in Algeria two years ago.

Along with the winner’s prize, the total prize pool for the competition has also risen to $10.4 million, reflecting a 32% increase. This boost highlights CAF’s dedication to improving the financial rewards of the tournament and supporting African football.

Seventeen countries have already secured their spots in this year’s competition, showing the strong interest and competitiveness among African teams. The draw ceremony, where the teams will be grouped, will take place on January 15, 2025, at the International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

The tournament will begin on Saturday, February 1, 2025, and the final match is set for Friday, February 28, 2025. This Championship promises to be a thrilling event that will showcase the best of African football while promoting unity among the participating nations.
