Sacked Chelsea Manager Takes Over At West Ham United
By Benjamin Abioye
West Ham United have officially announced the appointment of former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter as their new manager. The 49-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club, taking over from Julen Lopetegui, who was dismissed after six months in charge.
Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, West Ham is seven points clear of the relegation zone, having secured six league victories this season. Potter’s arrival marks his return to management following his departure from Chelsea in April 2023.
The team is now preparing for an exciting FA Cup third-round match against Aston Villa on Friday at 20:00 GMT. In his first interview with West Ham TV, Potter expressed his pride and excitement about his new role. He praised the club’s rich history and traditions, as well as the passionate fanbase and community that support the team.
Potter shared his enthusiasm for leading the squad and is committed to assembling well-coached teams that play entertaining, adaptable, and winning football. He also emphasized his desire to nurture young talent from the club’s academy and strengthen the relationship between the club, players, and the supporters who back them from London Stadium and around the world.
Potter’s management career has been impressive, having guided Östersund from Sweden’s fourth tier to the UEFA Europa League, achieved a record-high Premier League finish with Brighton & Hove Albion, and reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with Chelsea.
“It’s a very proud day, and I’m genuinely excited,” Potter said. “I can’t wait to meet the players, get on the training pitch, and engage with the supporters who have always been so supportive of their team.”
“West Ham has always struck me as a passionate and ambitious club with loyal supporters and a strong family feel. I’m eager to get to know everyone and to become part of this community,” he added.
