Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared how he found solace in Rev. Uma Ukpai during a difficult period in his life.

Adeboye revealed this while speaking at a service marking Rev. Ukpai’s 80th birthday at the International Worship Centre in Uyo.

Reflecting on the loss of his son Dare Adeboye in May 2021, Pastor Adeboye described it as one of the darkest moments of his life. Dare, who was based in Akwa Ibom State with his family, passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2021. He was the Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35 and left behind his wife and three daughters.

Adeboye recounted: “My son called me on a Sunday evening and said, ‘Daddy, the weekend program was extremely successful. Glory be to God, thank you for your prayer support.’ The next thing I heard on Tuesday night was that my son was gone.” Despite the heartbreak, Adeboye said, “I had to preach on Friday.”

During this tough time, Rev. Uma Ukpai’s unwavering commitment to his faith served as a source of strength for him. “If you truly want to serve God, you must be ready to do so in both good and bad times,” Adeboye said. He added, “One reference point that gave me strength was Uma Ukpai. I know he lost more than one child in a day, yet he did not waver. He kept on serving God. He gave me strength at a time when I needed it most.”

Adeboye concluded by stating that Ukpai’s impact and faithfulness would be even more appreciated after his passing.
