Tyson Fury Announces Retirement From Boxing
By Benjamin Abioye
Former Heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, has officially announced his retirement from the sport.
The announcement came as a shock to many, especially after the buzz surrounding his potential fight with Anthony Joshua. The two British heavyweights were set to clash in a major showdown at Wembley Stadium this summer, as revealed by promoter Eddie Hearn.
However, just days before the much-anticipated bout, Fury made the surprising decision to step away from the ring. In a video posted to his Instagram, Fury shared his retirement announcement: “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I have loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask!” His cryptic message left many fans and followers puzzled, especially considering the high expectations surrounding his fight with Joshua.
This isn’t the first time Fury has announced his retirement. After his victory over Dillian Whyte in April 2022, he declared that he was leaving boxing for good. But just six months later, he made a comeback, taking on Derek Chisora in a trilogy fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, reigniting excitement among his supporters.
Despite recent losses to Oleksandr Usyk, Fury had been widely expected to return to the ring for the Joshua fight, which had generated significant interest from both fans and the boxing world. Joshua, who is also without a title, had expressed his desire to fight Fury this year, creating anticipation for what could have been a defining match for both boxers.
Now, with Fury’s retirement, the future of the heavyweight division is uncertain. Fans and boxing enthusiasts are left wondering whether this retirement is permanent or another temporary break in a career that has been filled with comebacks. Regardless, Tyson Fury’s impact on the sport is undeniable, and his legacy will continue to resonate in the world of boxing for years to come.
