New Setback For Pep Guardiola, As Wife Pulls Away
By Gideon Ayeni
Pep Guardiola, the highly acclaimed manager of Manchester City has received a major bolt with the decision of his wife, Cristina Serra to part ways with him.
The news of Pep Guardiola and wife separation initially reported by Spanish outlet Sport, has been confirmed as a “completely amicable” separation.
The couple, who tied the knot near Barcelona in 2014, first crossed paths in 1994 and have three children: Maria (24), Marius (22), and Valentina (17). Despite their strong bond over the years, their separation was finalized in December 2023, though it was kept private, shared only with close friends and family. Both Pep Guardiola and his wife have requested that their privacy be respected during this time, with sources emphasizing that their relationship remains “stable, amicable, and friendly.”
Cristina Serra, a Brazilian journalist and writer, has been a consistent pillar of support throughout Pep Guardiola’s illustrious career, most notably during Manchester City’s historic Treble win in 2023. She was present at the Champions League final in Istanbul and also accompanied her husband to Wimbledon in July.
Though the couple’s relationship had always seemed strong, Serra’s decision to focus on her own career led to a major change. In 2019, she moved out of Manchester to devote more time to managing her family’s fashion business, Serra Claret. While Guardiola remained in Manchester to carry out his managerial duties, Serra continued to live in Barcelona.
The announcement of their split comes at a time when Guardiola and Manchester City are facing one of their most challenging seasons yet. Recent footage has surfaced showing Guardiola visibly frustrated with autograph seekers outside his home, sparking speculation about his future at the club. However, in November, Guardiola extended his contract with Manchester City, committing to stay until 2027, reassuring fans and the club that his focus remains on the team’s success.
Despite the end of their personal relationship, it appears that both Guardiola and Serra will continue to share mutual respect and maintain a supportive, co-parenting dynamic for the sake of their children.
