Former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad has been mobbed on social media after reacting to the return of items allegedly stolen from Kemi Badenoch’s brother by policemen in Nigeria.

United Kingdom Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch was on Tuesday morning the centre of social media storm after a United Kingdom-based Nigerian, James Akinwande on behalf of patriotic Nigerians returned a pair of shoes and a wristwatch that the UK partly leader claimed were stolen from her brother.

In a video making rounds online, James Akinwande was seen outside Kemi Badenoch’s party office holding a package containing a pair of shoes and a watch as replacement for the allegedly stolen ones.

Although Badenoch herself did not appear in the footage, the man handed the items to someone at the door, who politely inquired about his name.

The gesture has garnered varied reactions, with many applauding the symbolic act as a tongue-in-cheek response to Badenoch’s remarks, while others saw it as an effort to diffuse the tension between her and her country of origin. However, it was the reaction of Bashir Ahmad who served in the Muhammadu Buhari administration that caught the attention of some netizens who upbraided him

Read some netizens’ reactions below

@philit: Was he the police man that stole it? was the police man apprehended? That is the real problem because people don’t face consequences for their action

@Bashir Ahmad: Amazing. 🥰😂

@Oluwafemi: 😂😂😂 Buying Kemi the stolen shoes to me is insignificant, overhauling of the Nigerian Police system will do a great justice to her claims. What of other citizens that are voiceless but have experienced similar ordeal. God will heal our land. God bless Nigeria

@purple: Face of a clout chaser who is idle. Was he the police man who stole from Kemi and her family? Or maybe he’s born again now and doing restitution? Wow

@lionhead: Hope that settles the beef against Nigeria. A big thanks to that fellow Nigerian. We owe big time.

However, Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has found himself under fire after his comment on the viral video.

Under the post featuring the video, Ahmad commented, “Amazing,” triggering an immediate flood of responses from netizens. Many seized the opportunity to demand that he, too, return the money allegedly misappropriated during his tenure in government.

GWG.ng, however, reports that there has been no claim of corruption levelled against Bashir Ahmad while in government.

Read some netizens’ reactions as netizens’ blast Ahmad over comment on the viral video;

@Aloore: You are a full for commenting here …see let’s always say it as it is but at the same time keep at it to ensure we make it better …and don’t edify rubbish

@Daddyyurch: Make you self return all the public funds you stole

@adamantmaster: Na there dem dey see you, werey

@babangida101: Werey, and you no dey Nigeria o. The country good, you run leave am?

@sigidy: Fuul, I know you will be here. You happened to be one of the major reason @KemiBadenoch is disassociating herself from Nigeria.

Ahmad, who remains an influential figure within political circles, has yet to respond to the backlash.
