On Monday, President Donald Trump signed a series of sweeping executive orders, marking his continued push to reshape U.S. policies on immigration, climate change, and international relations.

The moves, which also included controversial pardons and reversals of policies from previous administrations, have sparked significant debate.

Immigration and National Security

Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, authorizing a large-scale deportation operation that would involve military resources. One of the most contentious actions was his order to revoke birthright citizenship, a move expected to face strong legal challenges due to its conflict with the U.S. Constitution, which grants citizenship to anyone born in the country.

The president also signed pardons for individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Referring to those convicted or who pleaded guilty as “hostages,” Trump justified the pardons as a gesture to his supporters, despite widespread condemnation.

Diversity and Inclusion Policies

In a controversial move, Trump reversed several executive orders designed to promote diversity, equality, and LGBTQ rights. He announced a policy that would officially recognize only “two genders, male and female,” effectively rolling back protections for gender identity that had been introduced by previous administrations.

Climate and Environmental Policies

Trump took another significant step in reshaping U.S. environmental policy by withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement—his second departure from the international accord. Defending the decision, Trump emphasized the need for energy independence, signing an order that declares a “national energy emergency” to expand oil and gas drilling nationwide.

Federal Workforce and Remote Work

The president also addressed work-from-home policies, signing an executive order to end remote work allowances for federal employees. The order mandates a return to full-time office schedules, a move that Trump defended as necessary for the productivity of the federal workforce, which had adopted remote work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

International Relations and Global Policy

Trump made several key international policy changes. He signed an order to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization (WHO), arguing that the U.S. was financially over-contributing compared to China. He also postponed the enforcement of a ban on the Chinese-owned TikTok, giving its parent company 75 days to sell a significant stake to U.S. entities.

In another reversal of Biden-era policies, Trump revoked sanctions against Israeli settlers accused of violence in the West Bank. He also removed Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, a move that has drawn praise from some and criticism from others, particularly given the Biden administration’s stance on Cuba.

Controversy and Reaction

Trump’s executive actions have been met with strong reactions from both his supporters and critics. His decisions on immigration, climate, and diversity policies are expected to face legal challenges, and many are questioning the long-term impact of these moves on U.S. governance and international relations.
