A disturbing incident involving the alleged physical assault of a junior soldier by a senior officer in the Nigerian Army’s 93 Battalion has sparked widespread outrage and demands for accountability.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 12, 2025, during preparations for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day parade in Jalingo, Taraba State.
According to eyewitness accounts, Lance Corporal Samuel P. arrived late for mustering, leading Lieutenant B. Mohammed to reprimand him. The situation escalated when the lieutenant allegedly ordered the soldier to perform “forward rolls” as punishment. Witnesses claim that the officer then took a stick from Sergeant Steven and flogged the soldier.

A picture of the aftermath, now circulating online, shows Lance Corporal Samuel with a bloodied and bandaged leg, corroborating claims of physical abuse.

The incident has ignited anger among soldiers within the battalion, with many describing it as part of a troubling pattern of mistreatment of lower-ranking personnel.
“This is not about discipline; it’s outright abuse,” one soldier said anonymously. “Discipline is necessary in the military, but it must be carried out with respect for human dignity and in line with established regulations.”
As of now, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations. However, soldiers within the battalion are calling for an immediate investigation to address the incident and prevent further occurrences of such behavior.
The video has fueled public calls for military authorities to uphold justice and ensure that discipline is enforced without crossing the boundaries of respect and human rights.
