Osun APC Division Deepens As Aregbesola’s Group Departs
By Benjamin Abioye

The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has announced its decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a statement signed by the Organising and Publicity Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives, Oluwaseun Abosede, the decision was a collective agreement reached by stakeholders in the group.
Abosede explained that the resolution to exit the APC was finalized during the monthly meeting of the Omoluabi Progressives held in Ilesa.
The meeting included representatives from the 332 wards across Osun State. The reasons for leaving the party included the exclusion of members, suspension and expulsion of leaders without fair hearings, and the continued disregard for the group’s structure.
The group also expressed disappointment with how the APC handled its internal crisis in Osun State, which contributed to the party’s poor performance in the last election cycle. According to the statement, this failure weakened the party’s popularity and strength among Osun residents. The leadership of Omoluabi Progressives conducted a voice vote, where members affirmed their readiness to align with another political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
At the meeting, Rauf Aregbesola addressed the group, praising members for their commitment to values such as integrity, good governance, and character. He also expressed confidence in their collective decision to pursue the goals of the Omoluabi Progressives.
Aregbesola stated, “I am indeed happy that all of you have spoken with one voice. It is not just one voice but a united front to lead the way to our collective victory in the journey ahead.” He emphasized the importance of their mission, which aims to bring prosperity to Osun State through responsible leadership.
He urged members to stay committed and attract like-minded individuals who are ready to join their efforts. “We are open to all, regardless of political, religious, or socio-cultural leanings. We have the numbers, strength, and political acumen to provide leadership that will make Osun the toast of its peers. By the grace of God, we shall succeed,” Aregbesola added.
This development is seen as the peak of the internal crisis that has plagued the Osun APC for years. The division within the party was a significant factor in former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s loss in the 2022 election. Aregbesola’s faction did not support Oyetola, who has the backing of President Bola Tinubu. Meanwhile, Aregbesola, once a strong Tinubu ally, seems to have distanced himself from the APC national leader.
