Shehu Sani Slams El-Rufai

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has slammed former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, calling him a “midget professor” and a “frustrated jobless ex-governor” seeking attention.

This criticism followed El-Rufai’s remarks about the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government of attempting to destroy opposition parties and straying from the party’s founding principles.

Sani accused El-Rufai of hypocrisy, stating that while in power, El-Rufai practiced “tyranny” and caused harm in Kaduna. He argued that the former governor could no longer offer advice on governance.

Sani also pointed out that El-Rufai left behind a “legacy of debt and division” in the state, saying, “When in power in Kaduna, he practised tyranny and unleashed evil; out of power, he is sanctimoniously preaching democracy to the country he helped to wreck, plundered, and persecuted.” He added that El-Rufai had demonized the opposition while in power and now embraced them after losing his position.

Sani mocked El-Rufai’s shift in stance, comparing him to a man scorned by a woman: “He is like a man who is turned down by a woman and resorted to speaking ill of her. Tinubu was his angel until when he was ‘evicted from the house,’ now telling the world he is a demon.” He further criticized the government, sarcastically claiming it was led by “illiterates” because they refused to hire El-Rufai, whom he referred to as a “Professor midget.”

Sani continued his attack on El-Rufai’s character, saying he had a history of intolerance toward opposition and extreme sensitivity to criticism. He stated, “He left a heap of garbage in Kaduna and is now preaching hygiene to a country that has not forgotten the history of his dirt.”

Sani continuing said El-Rufai piled up debt, used religion to divide people, and persecuted journalists. “The man who piled up debt for our people, used religion to divide the people of the state, disobeyed court orders, persecuted journalists, arrested people for criticising him on social media, is now telling others how to govern,” Sani said.

Concluding, Sani remarked that if El-Rufai had joined Tinubu’s government, critics in both the North and South would have been silenced by his “toxicity.” He added, “He thought he would have a puppet governor in Kaduna State; now it’s the opposite, and he is frustrated.” Sani also claimed, “He is now jobless, most times seeking to be invited to northern public events where he will whip up sectional sentiments.”
