UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 wrapped up with key results, revealing which teams advanced to the play-offs, which secured spots in the last 16, and which were eliminated from the competition.
The final round of Champions League group matches has wrapped up, revealing which teams have secured their spots in the knockout rounds.
Manchester City bounced back strongly to defeat Club Brugge, earning their place in the play-offs. They will be joined by Aston Villa and Arsenal in the last 16, along with Liverpool, who had already secured their qualification.
Celtic, despite losing 4-2 to Aston Villa, also advanced to the play-offs, making it a successful group stage for all five British teams.
The teams that have automatically qualified for the last 16 are: Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille, and Aston Villa. Meanwhile, teams entering the knockout phase play-offs include Atalanta, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, PSV, Paris St-Germain, Benfica, Monaco, Brest, Feyenoord, Juventus, Celtic, Manchester City, Sporting, and Club Brugge. The teams that have been eliminated are Dinamo Zagreb, Stuttgart, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bologna, Sparta Prague, Leipzig, Girona, Red Star Belgrade, Sturm Graz, Salzburg, Slovan Bratislava, and Young Boys.
Looking ahead, the upcoming rounds promise exciting matchups, especially for Manchester City, who will face tough challenges. Teams ranked ninth through 24th will play in two-legged play-offs on February 11-12 and 18-19 to secure their spots in the last 16. The draw for these play-off matchups will take place on Friday, January 31, at 11:00 GMT.
The round of 16 will begin on March 4-5 and 11-12, with the exact matchups determined in the last-16 draw on February 21. On that day, teams will also learn their potential paths to the final, as the quarter-finals and semi-finals draws will occur simultaneously.
