Nollywood Mourns As Actor With 10 Wives Dies
By Benjamin Abioye

Veteran Nollywood actor Asa Koko has passed away after battling an undisclosed illness for more than two years.
Fellow actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod shared the sad news on Instagram.
Before his death, Asa Koko lived in Mushin, Lagos, where he owned a self-titled canteen. Kunle posted a video from his last visit to Asa Koko’s home, where the actor spoke about his ongoing health struggles. In the video, Asa Koko revealed that he had “spent years in the hospital fighting the ailment” and had even been visited by the Lagos State Governor during his treatment. He also showed Kunle his swollen leg, expressing his “gratitude to God for keeping him alive thus far.”
Kunle Afod paid an emotional tribute to his late friend, saying, “May his soul rest in peace. Asa Koko, hmmmm. It’s a WRAP,” before offering prayers for him.
Asa Koko, whose full name was not widely known, was a well-recognized figure in the Yoruba segment of Nollywood. His acting career spanned over a decade, during which he appeared in numerous Yoruba-language films. He was known for his distinctive acting style and significant contributions to the industry.
Though he kept much of his life private, it was known that Asa Koko had married ten wives. Before his death, he had often spoken about the challenges faced by aging actors and the need for greater support for industry veterans. Kunle Afod, who had previously raised funds to assist him, reminded younger generations not to forget Nollywood’s aging stars.
Following Asa Koko’s passing, tributes have poured in from colleagues such as Iyabo Ojo, as well as from fans, all expressing admiration for the late actor’s impact on the Yoruba film industry.
His death is another loss to the entertainment industry, following the recent passing of comic singer Mukaila Senwele. Asa Koko now joins a growing list of Nollywood stars who have passed away.
