Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, made history on Sunday nighi as she clinched the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards.

While accepting the award for her hit song “Love Me JeJe,” Tems, visibly emotional, thanked God for the achievement and took a heartfelt moment to acknowledge her mother’s sacrifices. She revealed that the award held an even deeper significance as her mother’s birthday was just hours away.
“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys,” she said with gratitude. “I just want to thank you, ma, because you have really done a lot for me and my brother.”
Tems also expressed appreciation for her team and supporters, recognizing the people who have helped shape her music career. “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team,” she said.
She extended her thanks to her manager Muyiwa, Wale, her stylist, and close friends, showing appreciation for their unwavering support. “I love you guys,” she added.
Ending her speech, Tems gave all credit to divine intervention, acknowledging how much God had transformed her life. “To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much,” she concluded.
