Assault: Monarch Who Said ‘He’s More Than Police’ Arraigned

The Ogun Monarch, Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, has been formally charged in court following widespread outrage over a viral video showing him assaulting a 73-year-old man in Ifo, Ogun State.
In a statement released on February 4, 2025, by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi, the monarch was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The court granted Oba Ogunjobi bail while adjourning the case to March 6, 2025, for further proceedings.
The police reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice takes its course, regardless of social status.
GWG.ng reports that The viral footage, which sparked public outrage, led the Ogun State Government to suspend the monarch for six months over his “uncivil conduct,” which was deemed inappropriate for his royal status.
In the two-minute video, Areola was seen kneeling on a road while Oba Ogunjobi and his aides verbally and physically abused him.
The king accused him of conspiracy and threatened to use his influence to have him jailed. At one point, one of the king’s aides slapped Areola and ordered him to prostrate before the Oba.
