NIS Appoints New Public Relations Officer

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has appointed Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) AS Akinlabi as the new Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO).
This appointment follows the redeployment of the former spokesperson, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration KT Udo, who has been posted as the Passport Control Officer for Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement issued by the NIS on February 4, 2025, the decision was part of the Senior Staff Posting Order released on January 31, 2025.
ACI Akinlabi, a native of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State, is a seasoned immigration officer with a strong academic background. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is also a distinguished fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.
Enlisted into the NIS in December 2006, Akinlabi has served in various capacities within the Service Headquarters, gaining extensive experience across multiple directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passports and Travel Documents. Notably, he was among the pioneer staff of the NIS Contact Centre and later became the Second-in-Command at the SERVICOM Unit, which plays a crucial role in public relations operations.
Before his new appointment, Akinlabi served as an Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands. The NIS expressed confidence that his wealth of experience will help project and sustain the Service’s positive image globally.
His appointment takes immediate effect.
