Trump Proposes Relocating Palestinians Outside Gaza

U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed permanently resettling Palestinians outside of Gaza, a stance that goes beyond his earlier statements.

However, he did not provide any specific details on how this relocation would take place.

His idea aligns with the views of Israel’s far-right factions but directly contradicts President Joe Biden’s position against the forced displacement of Palestinians.

During a press conference, where journalists packed the East Room, Trump was asked if his plan would involve U.S. military action. He responded, “As far as Gaza is concerned, we’ll do what is necessary. If it’s necessary, we’ll do that.” However, he did not clarify under what legal authority the U.S. could claim long-term control over Gaza.

Trump stated that he envisions a “long-term ownership position” for Gaza, which he believes would bring stability to the Middle East. He claimed that regional leaders supported his idea, saying, “Everybody I’ve spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land.”

Describing Gaza as a “hellhole” and “symbol of death and destruction,” Trump suggested relocating Palestinians to other countries. He expressed hope that Egypt and Jordan would “open their hearts” to the plan over time. When asked about Gaza’s future, he proposed transforming it into “the Riviera of the Middle East,” calling it a valuable and magnificent opportunity.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump as “the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.” He urged people to consider the proposal, stating, “It’s worth paying attention to this. It’s something that could change history.” Netanyahu also commended Trump for “thinking outside the box” and challenging conventional ideas.

However, Trump’s proposal would likely violate international law and face strong opposition from Western allies and regional powers. Some human rights organizations have compared the idea to ethnic cleansing.

Reacting to Trump’s comments, Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri condemned the plan, calling it an “expulsion from their land.” He warned that it would “generate chaos and tension in the region because the people of Gaza will not allow such plans to pass.”
