Badenoch 15-year British passport Nigerians react

The leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has suggested that immigrants should wait 15 years before qualifying for a British passport.

Kemi Badenoch has raised the bar for immigrants aiming to get a British passport explaining that Britain should be seen as a home, not a hotel. She emphasized that these immigration policies aim to protect the country and its economy.

She stated, “Britain is our home. It’s not a hotel. It’s time to tell the truth on immigration and propose real plans to do something about it. I want to reduce immigration and make living here actually mean something. We need to change the way our immigration system works. So I’m announcing that the Conservative Party is going to do the following things differently.”

Badenoch outlined key changes in her proposal. First, immigrants must now live in the UK for ten years instead of five before applying for indefinite leave to remain. Second, applicants must have a high enough income and contribute to the economy if they wish to bring family members. Additionally, those with a criminal record would be permanently banned.

She continued, “And if you’ve got a criminal record, you’re banned. Three, if you’ve claimed benefits or need social housing, you can’t even apply.”

Another major change under proposals put forward by Badenoch is extending the wait time before applying for a British passport. Currently, applicants must wait 12 months after obtaining indefinite leave to remain, but under the new proposal, this would increase to five years, making the total minimum wait 15 years.

Besides the higher scales towards getting a passport, Badenoch also proposed stricter rules against illegal immigration. She stated, “Five, if you enter this country illegally or outstay your visa, you’ll be banned from ever gaining leave to remain or a passport.”

She concluded by saying these reforms would be the toughest immigration changes ever introduced. The goal is to reduce numbers, secure borders, and create a system that benefits British citizens. “This is another step in our plan to control our immigration system. If you agree, join us and let’s get it done.”
