Chief (Mrs) Christy Adebanjo, widow of the late pro-democracy champion and nationalist, Chief Ayo Adebanjo has not been informed of his death, one of Nigeria’s leading news outlets reported on Sunday.

The 93-year widow was yet to be informed of the death of her husband because she was ill at the time of his death, Sunday Vanguard reported.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the news paper that Chrisy Adebanjo had yet to be informed of the news of the death of her husband, a development seen as the end of an era in Nigeria.

“Mama has not been told the news of Baba’s death because she is also sick. She is in the hospital,” the source told the newspaper.

When asked whether the news of her husband’s death would be broken to Christy Adebanjo, the family source said: “They will not break the news to her because of her illness,”

The family described the late politician as a great family man, an irreplaceable community leader and a dependable fighter for the common good of his people.

They noted that the late elder statesman facilitated the construction of roads, schools and hospitals in their community.

GWG.ng reports that the news of the death of Pa Adebanjo has generally been described as the end of an era in Nigeria as he was generally seen as the last nationalist in the struggle for Nigeria’s independence.
