Governor Clarifies Arrest Order On Braless, Pantless Ladies
By Imman Onyero

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has clarified the announcements in some sections of the state of a plan to arrest ladies caught without bras or pants in public.
The governor’s reaction followed uproar around the state in some sections of the Nigerian news media quoting operatives of the Anambra Government backed Agunechemba Security Outfit to the effect that ladies without bras or pants would be arrested.
Specifically, a town crier in Abagana community in Njikoka Local Government Area was recorded on video warning that as part of the ongoing efforts in curbing criminality that besides arresting native doctors, that security agents would also arrest ladies who move around the community without pants and bras.
GWG.ng reports that the video has echoed across Nigerian news and social media.
The report was initially denied by the Anambra State commissioner for information, Dr Law Mefor who in a text message told GWG.ng that there was no plan as such
However, clarifying the reports on the arrest plan of ladies without bras and pants, the governor speaking through his Senior Special Adviser on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, said:
“The trending announcement by the town crier in Abagana, Njikoka LGA, wherein the announcer stated that ladies who move about without underwear (bra and pants) would be arrested, is neither from the State government nor Agunechemba Security Outfit.
“Such trivial matters do not have any legal support and cannot be the focus of the State government or its law enforcement agencies at this time it is focused on ridding the State of every form of criminality. While this is not to encourage indecent dressing in our communities, it is important to make this clarification so as not to derail the focus of our law enforcement under any pretext.
“Kindly disregard any such distracting announcement and remember to continue supporting the Security Agencies with credible information on criminals around our communities — if you see something, say something!”
GWG.ng reports that the clarity brought by the governor’s aide is expected to bring a respite to ladies who go about without pants and bras in Anambra State and calm the storm in sections of Nigerian news and social media.
