Embattled singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has retracted his earlier claim of being mentally unstable, affirming in court that he is mentally sound and healthy and not mad as earlier declared.

Portable made the statement on Thursday before Magistrate O.L. Oke at the Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he was arraigned for allegedly assaulting three officials of the Ogun Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

The Zazoo Zeh crooner was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command on Monday, prompting him to release a viral Instagram video on Tuesday, where he claimed to be a psychiatric patient receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I am a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,” Portable had said.

However, the Ogun State Police Command dismissed his claims, with spokesperson Omolola Odutola stating that even if he were in a psychiatric facility, it would not exempt him from being a wanted person.

Barely 48 hours later, the singer turned himself in and appeared in court, where the magistrate questioned his mental state.
“Are you alright? Are you sure you are mentally sound? If not, we have a lot of psychiatric homes we can send you to,” Magistrate Oke asked.

In response, Portable confidently declared that he was not mad saying, “I am mentally alright.”

The singer pleaded not guilty to the five-count charges brought against him and was granted bail of ₦2 million with a surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned until March 5 for further hearing.
