Ijaw Youths national assembly protest

The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has criticized the protest against the leadership of the Amnesty Programme at the National Assembly, calling them street urchins gathered by corrupt individuals with selfish motives.

The Ijaw Youths Network, IYN has urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore the demands of the Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum (NDLEF), which they claim is spreading lies against the Amnesty Programme (PAP) leadership.

IYN praised the President for his continued support for PAP and its leader. They believe the protest was sponsored by people who are angry because they can no longer take money from the Amnesty Office through fraudulent means.

Reacting to the protest on Wednesday, the IYN said those holding placards were jobless young people, mostly from northern Nigeria, and were being used for a staged protest.

They described the demonstration as a planned attempt to blackmail and distract the Amnesty boss from the reforms he is carrying out.

In a statement signed by IYN President Frank Ebikabo and Secretary Federal Ebiaridor, the group advised the President to examine the allegations carefully, saying they were false claims pushed by those with selfish interests.

“We strongly condemn the protest in its entirety. Those behind this mischief and criminal enterprise are people who have created fake camps to steal government funds, and they are angry that Otuaro’s reforms have stopped them from carrying out their fraudulent acts.”

“We call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to disregard the Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum. If the President checks their activities properly, he would see how hollow their allegations sound.”

“Otuaro will not succumb to cheap blackmail. Their lies do not stand against the visible reforms being carried out. Nigerians can see through the tricks of these blackmailers whose falsehoods are easy to detect.”

“To make their protest seem real, the NDLEF hired young urchins, bought them new shirts, trousers, and slippers so they would look neat during the protest,” IYN said.

The group insisted that Otuaro is committed to transparency, accountability, and the empowerment of Niger Delta youths through the Amnesty Programme.

Rejecting the claims of nepotism and mismanagement, they stated that “all contracts awarded followed due process in line with procurement laws.”

“This protest is just an act of desperation by those who want to stop the progress of the Amnesty Programme. Otuaro will not give in to blackmail.”

“We urge Niger Deltans to ignore these allegations. The administrator’s focus remains on fulfilling the PAP’s mandate.”

“We stand firmly behind Otuaro’s leadership. No amount of propaganda will stop his plans for the Amnesty Programme.”

“We also call on stakeholders and beneficiaries of the PAP to stay strong because, under Otuaro’s leadership, the programme will continue to work towards lasting peace and development in the Niger Delta.”
