Natalie Okri on Wigs

British singer Natalie Okri has shared her reasons for stopping the use of wigs and human hair extensions, stating that some of them are originally sacrifices to deities and unknown gods.

Natalie Okri explained that in certain parts of Asia, women visit temples to offer their hair as a way of cleansing themselves from bad luck, poverty, and other misfortunes. According to her, these hairs are later sold to big vendors and eventually purchased by people, especially black women, who might unknowingly be carrying someone else’s bad energy.

GWG.ng reports that Natalie Okri, a 2009 Brtian’s Got Talent star in a video posted on her Instagram page, said, “There are 3 reasons why I stopped wearing wigs and human hairs: some human hairs are sacrificed to demons, deities and other unknown gods.”

She continued, “A lot of women in some countries like Asia, they go to the temple to sacrifice their hair to their god, believing that their gods will purify and cleanse them. They gave their hair as a form of getting rid of bad luck, poverty and every other thing stressing them and they started life anew.”

Natalie Okri further explained that after the hair is sacrificed, temple workers take it and sell it to international markets. She said, “Those working in the temple take their hair and sell it off to the European market or to different big vendors like Ali Baba, Ali Express and different brands. And we black women go to those websites to buy these hairs at hundreds of pounds.”

Natalie Okri emphasized that wearing such hair goes against her Christian beliefs. She added, “We are wearing someone’s bad luck on our heads. You may not believe in their god but as a Christian, that works against what I believe in, because we see them as demons and deities.”

Natalie Okri gained public recognition in 2009 after performing on Britain’s Got Talent.
