Nigerian Telecoms Overcharging Customers – IGoSave
By Benjamin Abioye

Comedian IGoSave alleges that Nigerian telecom providers are overcharging citizens for data, calling on the government and agencies to investigate their practices.
Nigerian comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, popularly known as IGoSave, has accused telecommunications companies in Nigeria of exploiting citizens.
He claimed that these companies are no different from internet fraudsters due to their high data charges and poor service quality.
Speaking from the United Kingdom, the comedian shared his experience, stating that internet data in the UK lasts much longer and is faster compared to Nigeria. He expressed shock that his 20GB data subscription, purchased three weeks earlier, was still active and working efficiently.
“This is the third time I have gone to my service provider in the UK to top up my phone, and they turned me back, saying I still have data. I bought just 20 gigabytes three weeks ago, and it’s still working. It’s even very fast,” he said.
IGoSave urged Nigerian authorities, including the government, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), to investigate telecom companies.
He questioned why a 20GB subscription in the UK could last a month, while in Nigeria, a 50GB subscription barely lasted three days. “Internet providers are defrauding Nigerians, and they need to be investigated. There’s no difference between them and internet fraudsters. How much is the minimum wage in Nigeria that they are charging so much for data that doesn’t last?” he asked.
