How To Avoid Paying The New DStv And GOtv Subscription Prices
By Benjamin Abioye

MultiChoice Nigeria has introduced new measures to help DStv and GOtv subscribers avoid higher prices as a 21% subscription increase takes effect from March 1, 2025.
MultiChoice Nigeria has introduced a new loyalty benefit that allows customers to avoid paying the recently increased subscription prices for DStv and GOtv. The new pricing, which reflects an average 21% increase, will officially take effect on March 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned MultiChoice to address concerns regarding the hike.
Ways to Avoid Paying Higher Subscription Fees
To ease the financial burden on customers, MultiChoice has rolled out a support package. Subscribers who renew their subscriptions before they expire will continue to pay the old rates for a set period. This initiative is meant to reward loyal customers while helping them manage the price hike.
Additionally, the company is running a Step-Up promotion, which allows both active and disconnected subscribers to be automatically upgraded to a higher package when they renew on a plan above their current subscription. This offer, which started in January, will run until March 31.
As part of its relief measures, MultiChoice is also planning a price reduction for its streaming service, Showmax. The new pricing will be announced on Friday, February 28, and is expected to make access to live sports, movies, and general entertainment more affordable.

Why MultiChoice Increased Subscription Prices
In an official statement titled “Price Adjustment on DStv and GOtv Packages to Business Partners,” MultiChoice Nigeria’s CEO, John Ugbe, explained the reasons behind the price increase.
He stated:
“Due to prevalent economic factors leading to increased operational costs, we have unavoidably had to adjust the prices of our DStv and GOtv subscription packages. We understand the impact this change may have on our valued partners, and we have only taken this step after careful consideration and in-depth analysis.”
FCCPC Summons MultiChoice Over Price Increase
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called on MultiChoice Nigeria to explain the planned price hike. The commission has scheduled an investigative hearing for Thursday, February 27, 2025, at its headquarters.
FCCPC’s action follows MultiChoice’s formal notification about the price adjustment. Authorities will examine whether the increase aligns with fair consumer protection practices.
