MTN Takes New Decision On Tariff Plan
By Gideon Ayeni

Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has announced that its popular Betatalk tariff plan will be discontinued on March 30, 2025.
The company informed customers via SMS, urging them to migrate to other available plans by dialing 1232#.

Betatalk, a favorite among subscribers, offers a 200% bonus on every recharge, making it one of MTN’s most rewarding plans. The decision to phase it out comes at a time when the telecom provider has also significantly increased its data plan prices by over 100%, despite Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
MTN’s decision on Betatalk came at a time Nigerian news media has been awash with the revelation that MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has implemented a fresh round of subscription fee hikes, which take effect from today, March 1, 2025.
The back-to-back price increases across telecoms and entertainment services have sparked concerns among Nigerians already grappling with inflation and a rising cost of living. Many consumers have taken to social media to express frustration over the growing financial strain as it concerns them.
While subscribers to the MTN Betatalk will lament over the limitations and difficult options facing them, subscribers to the Multichoice platforms on DSTV and GoTV will also be considering the difficulties to them when it comes to entertainment.
