INEC Clears Air On Voter Registration Resumption Date
By Gideon Ayeni

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming that it will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and the replacement of lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on May 27, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, described the report as false and misleading. He clarified that the Commission has not set any date for the resumption of voter registration and urged the public to disregard the circulating misinformation.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a misleading report making the rounds, that we will resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and replacement of lost Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) on 27th May 2025.
The report is untrue. The Commission has not announced any resumption date for the CVR.
We appeal to the public to disregard the false narrative.”- The statement read.
Oyekanmi reassured Nigerians that INEC remains committed to keeping the public informed about any official updates regarding the voter registration process.
Meanwhile, in another development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), following what administration officials claimed as a rigorous and merit-based selection process.
Ogunjimi’s appointment as the new AGF takes effect on March 7, 2025, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire. His selection was finalized after a competitive assessment involving top directors of accounts in the federal civil service. The selection process included a written test, an ICT proficiency exam, and an oral interview, ensuring only the most qualified candidate was chosen.
