The Nigerian Air Force has been commended for its unwavering commitment to counter terrorism, with the U.S. reaffirming its support for strengthened security collaboration.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been praised for its continuous dedication and major contributions to the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

According to a statement by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the recognition was given during a high-level meeting held in Abuja on March 4, 2025. A United States delegation, led by Jessica Long, Acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the U.S. Department of State, met with senior NAF officials to discuss security cooperation.

The delegation, received by Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, Chief of Civil-Military Relations, focused on ways to enhance intelligence sharing and strengthen counterterrorism efforts between both nations.

During the meeting, Jessica Long praised the Nigerian government and its military for their firm commitment to fighting terrorism. She acknowledged recent successes in disrupting terrorist networks and commended the military’s use of intelligence-driven strategies, which have been effective in tackling insurgency. She added that these efforts have helped secure key regions in Nigeria and contributed to broader regional stability.

She also assured that the United States remains committed to supporting the NAF’s counter-terrorism operations. Long emphasized the importance of precision-driven military strategies, ensuring that NAF operations remain both effective and strategically impactful. The discussions explored areas such as intelligence sharing, capacity building, and operational support to further improve NAF’s ability to combat insurgency.

Air Vice Marshal Daramola expressed gratitude for the U.S. delegation’s visit and reaffirmed NAF’s commitment to national security while ensuring the protection of civilians during operations. He highlighted efforts made by the Civil-Military Relations Branch in building trust with local communities and minimizing collateral damage.

He also stressed the need for more cooperation in specialized training and technology transfer to further strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.

The meeting was attended by senior NAF officers, including AVM AY Abdullahi, Director of Operations, and AVM EK Gabkwet, Director of Coordination and Cooperation, along with other high-ranking officials.
