Why Tinubu Sacked Kennedy-Ohanenye

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained and is currently interrogating former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of financial misconduct, including the misappropriation of ₦138,413,253.89 from the ministry’s 2023 budget.

According to insider sources, the funds were earmarked for government projects, including the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative, but were allegedly diverted for personal use. Investigators believe Ohanenye violated procurement laws and engaged in unauthorized expenditures during her tenure.

The former minister arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:00 AM on Thursday and has since been undergoing questioning over suspected breaches of financial regulations. Officials claim she failed to adhere to due process in budgetary allocations, with allegations of fraudulent transactions linked to her office.

As of the time of filing this report, Ohanenye remains in EFCC custody as investigations continue.
