OAU Professor Slumps Meeting

A senior professor at OAU collapsed during a departmental meeting and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital where he was rushed to.

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is mourning the sudden passing of a senior professor, Jimoh Olanipekun.

He reportedly collapsed during a departmental meeting and could not be revived despite receiving medical attention.

According to a statement from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Olanipekun was in a meeting when his colleagues noticed he was struggling to breathe. “During a departmental meeting this morning, it was noticed by his colleagues that he was breathing abnormally. He was immediately rushed to the University Health and Medical Centre,” the statement read.

Despite the swift response, his condition worsened, leading to his referral to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC). Sadly, he was later pronounced dead.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, expressed deep shock over the incident. He described Olanipekun as a brilliant scholar who passed away while carrying out his academic duties. “It is with shock and disbelief that we receive the news of the passing of such a brilliant scholar, who died in the line of duty,” Bamire said.

He extended his condolences to the professor’s family and encouraged them to find strength in the legacy he left behind. “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away as He pleases,” he added.

Olanipekun, a well-respected academic in the Department of Philosophy, was known for his significant contributions to the institution. The university management described his passing as a great loss to the academic community and prayed for comfort for his family, colleagues, and students.
