Peter Obi Mourns Okupe

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Doyin Okupe. Describing Okupe as his elder brother, Obi said his death was a shocking and painful loss, not just for him but for the entire Obidient family.

The former governor of Anambra State emphasized that Okupe’s passing has created a significant void in Nigeria’s political space. He called on supporters and well-wishers to offer prayers for Okupe and his bereaved family during this difficult time.

“With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe. On behalf of the family and the Obidient family, I sincerely mourn his passing,” Obi said.

Peter Obi praised Okupe’s dedication to the country, stating, “Dr. Okupe was an active figure in the nation’s political space and a man who desired a better Nigeria. His death is a profound loss – not only to his family and loved ones but to all of us.”

Peter Obi urged members of the Obidient Movement and other Nigerians to keep Okupe’s soul in their prayers and to support his grieving family. “May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this sad and irreplaceable loss,” he added.

He concluded his statement by praying for Okupe’s family, saying, “May God Almighty bless his family always.”

Okupe passed away on Friday at the age of 72.
