By Benjamin Abioye

A dramatic incident has sparked debate after a man failed to pay a lady the agreed 40,000 naira after spending 24 hours with her, choosing to pay in installments instead.
A dramatic incident has taken over Nigerian social media after a man was exposed for breaching a payment agreement with a lady he spent the night with.
The lady claimed that the man agreed to pay her 40,000 naira for their time together but failed to do so in full, leading to a confrontation that was caught on video.
The footage, now widely circulated, showed the man being questioned by a group of unidentified men inside a car. Initially reluctant to speak, he eventually admitted that he had only made partial payments—first 17,000 naira on the day of their encounter and later 8,000 naira after the lady seized his phone. He had reportedly spent almost 24 hours with her but still owed 15,000 naira, which she insisted on collecting before he left.
The situation has sparked mixed reactions online. Some found humor in the incident, while others criticized both parties.
One user, @TowFunFun, joked about the lady’s earnings, saying, “40k for a day? That’s lucrative! If she works just 15 days a month, that’s 600k!” Similarly, @samzzy67 marveled at the man’s endurance, stating, “4 PM till the next day? Omo, una get strength oo.”
Others were less amused. @nodafaithful expressed frustration at the way the issue was handled, saying, “The guy inside the car talks too much. If you want to help a man, do it quietly, not like you’re God himself.”
Some users argued that the man should have been allowed to pay in installments. @RMG_Continentxl wrote, “Some of them now carry POS, so allow boys to pay small small too. Everybody go dey alright.”
However, not everyone sympathized with him. @SureNigerian mocked the man, saying, “The girl knew he was a mugu. Trenches girls don’t charge that much.” Meanwhile, @PiCrusader questioned his priorities, commenting, “How can a struggling man go and put himself in this situation?”
The incident has reignited conversations around transactional relationships, financial responsibility, and personal accountability. Some argued that the man should have honored the agreement, while others believed the situation should not have been recorded and shared publicly.
Regardless of where people stand, the viral nature of the story has once again highlighted how quickly personal matters can become public debates in the age of social media.
