Lecturer Kick Student Ground

A lecturer at Federal Polytechnic Nekede has sparked outrage after assaulting a student by kicking him to the ground, leading to widespread condemnation.

A disturbing incident has sparked outrage online after a video surfaced showing a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, physically assaulting a male student in front of his classmates.

In the footage, which was shared on the X platform, the lecturer was seen kicking the student to the ground, causing panic among other students. It appeared that the lecturer had given an instruction, but the student did not comply, seemingly because he did not hear it clearly. The student could be heard saying, “I didn’t hear, I was having a headache.”

The video has triggered widespread reactions, with many condemning the lecturer’s actions as an abuse of power. Some have called for his immediate dismissal and prosecution.

“The lecturer should not only be dismissed but also prosecuted. Enough of this barbarism in Nigerian schools!” wrote @IK_Balarabe, expressing strong disapproval.

Another user, @Nanaezze, compared the act to a football foul, saying, “Lecturer doing tackle from behind. That’s a straight red card!”

Some commenters pointed out the imbalance of power in academic institutions. @webTaliban stated, “All these lecturers think they are doing you a favor by teaching you,” while @mayor, an alumnus of the school, reflected on the struggles students face even after graduation, writing, “That’s my school. I finished mechanical engineering in 2017. Up till now, I never use the certificate see work.”

There were also concerns about possible retaliation from students. @iyanuiyanuiyanu warned, “Now if the boy gathers his friends and attacks the lecturer, it will be another story. I hope the lecturer gets punished for that act.”

Other social media users reacted with sarcasm and humor. @Ogadifine remarked, “Thank God this is man to man before we start hearing another thing,” while @retweet_repostz simply called the lecturer “power drunk.”

Calls for accountability have continued to grow, with users like @Ifeanyijohnokon urging authorities to act swiftly, saying, “That lecturer should be fished out and made to face the law.”

As of now, there has been no official response from the school management regarding the incident. However, the debate over the abuse of authority in Nigerian academic institutions remains a heated topic.
